I’m no superhuman, I mean I’m growing a human in my body which is pretty super but I don’t have a special energy superpower that allows me to get my booty out of bed and work out. I’m a normal human being….no I take that back I’m a normal NON MORNING human being that enjoys a warm cozy bed and staying in it until I absolutely must get out of it. If you’re connected with me on social media (and if you’re not why aren’t you???) then you’ll notice I’ve been up early in the AM getting my workout in before little man wakes up, so how am I doing it? Well let me explain.

As a Beachbody coach of course I want to try their products and since I started working out about 5 years ago, preworkout has definitely been a must. I fell in love with the Beachbody Performance preworkout, 🍋 Energize. Pre pregnancy I was taking it every day to get my workout in – sometimes 2 workouts and they were different workouts than what I’m doing now. I was killing Body Beast which can be over 50 minutes of strength training and then I’d follow that up a few hours later with a 21 Day Fix workout. I loved Energize!!! But of course when I found out that I was pregnant I immediately stopped taking it, I assumed it was harmful to my body at this point and honestly I was so tired and sick in my first trimester that I had no desire to workout anyways! Once I started feeling better I still couldn’t find the energy to workout. My doctor told me I could have up to 2 cups of coffee per day, well as much as I love coffee trying to drink it quickly before a workout just isn’t in the cards for me and honestly I couldn’t drink that much coffee. I did my best to force myself to workout and sometimes I would, sometimes I wouldn’t. It just didn’t feel the same, I wasn’t into it. I’m a part of a Facebook group for prego’s like me that want to workout and stay active and I posted in there asking what they did for energy and I was shocked when I got a response from someone that said they were taking the preworkout Energize! They mentioned a blog post that broke down the ingredients and how they were safe during pregnancy. So I talked it over with my hubby, I found the blog post I did some of my own research and we decided (yup I said we because ya know…his baby too!) to go ahead and try it. That’s what I did. I forced myself out of bed and chugged some Energize, 10 minutes later I was feeling pretty good and had a killer workout. Ok I say killer but I mean..it was a damn good workout, it was killer for a prego ok? But I was still a little concerned, did I do something wrong, was I harming my baby? I decided that since my 20 week appointment was coming up I’d hold off on taking it again. I took the canister in to my doctor and had her look it over. I was so relieved to hear her say that it was totally fine and on occasion if I felt like having one cup of coffee on the same day as taking Energize because “it sounds like something nice to do” don’t freak out.
That was about 3 weeks ago, I’ve been taking Energize at least 3x a week for my early morning workouts and I’m feeling great. It’s made all the difference because as I mentioned way up, I am NOT a morning person I need that boost in the mornings to get me going. My day ends up just running away from me, it’s just too easy to miss an afternoon workout but the morning…before the little guy wakes up that is my time. That’s the time that I can focus, there is nothing else going on, my husband is out in his workout room at the same time and it just works. Could I do it without the Energize, well yea you can do anything but I wouldn’t have the same energy, I wouldn’t be as motivated and I wouldn’t get the same results. So there you have it, my secret weapon!
Would I suggest that YOU take preworkout during your pregnancy? No I wouldn’t. I would suggest that you talk to your doctor about it and show him/her the ingredients. I will also say that one of the main reasons my hubby and I were ok with trying it was because the caffeine in Energize is low dose and comes from Green Tea another selling point for us was that there aren’t a lot of ingredients in it, which is always a good thing!
Do your own research and talk to your doctor, I’m glad I did!
