Joaquin is now a year old! Still having a hard time wrapping my mom brain around that lol But it became pretty clear that I needed to start feeding him accordingly. I could tell he was getting tired of pears every morning so I knew I needed to switch things up. The problem was what? We haven’t had the best experience with apples and he definitely has some digestive issues…for a minute I even considered buying him already made food because I just wasn’t sure what to feed him! Alex and I took a trip to the Co-Op at the Village to check out their produce and I meandered over to their baby food section, prepared to convince Alex that we needed to just buy some. After I started checking them out and reading the labels, I realized not only can I make these but even the organic baby food has all these extra ingredients in them, so really all I needed was ideas! I snapped some pics of the labels bought some fresh produce and we were out!
As I was making dinner that night another thought occurred to me. This week is my free healthy eating group which is full of whole grains, veggies, high protein meat…why can’t I feed that to little man? As it turned out that nights dinner was homemade sloppy joes: the sauce is full of tomatoes and seasoned with healthy items like agave nectar, pure maple syrup and more veggies and the meat – ground turkey! I pureed that with some freshly made quinoa and he ate it all! He loved it!
This morning I decided to try some fruit with quinoa so I pureed 1/4 of a mango, 2 strawberries and some quinoa…I was a little nervous about introducing this to him. He’s never had mango and would he like the fruits with quinoa? I just wasn’t sure. But we tried and it and again he loved it, he seemed pretty excited to FINALLY have something new! Poor guy can’t live off of pears forever!
So i’m excited to try new things and new combos with him. We’ll be adding quinoa pasta, fresh kale & spinach and high protein red meat to his diet soon. And Alex can’t wait for his teeth to come in so he can have burgers lol
Mom’s what are you feeding your babies? Any great combos you can recommend?
